Malta’s national swimming pool opens in 1986

Description

This is the moment Malta’s brand new national swimming pool was officially opened.

The complex at Tal-Qroqq was formally declared open by President of Malta Agatha Barbara in July 1986.

Hundreds of people gathered in the stands around the pool to watch the official ceremony.

Today, the pool is the home of swimming, waterpolo, triathlon, synchronised swimming and canoe polo in Malta.

Following a recent refurbishment and upgrade, it also offers a full sized Olympic pool and a diving pool, and abides by International Olympic Swimming Standards.
