Cleaning up Malta more than 60 years ago

Description

Campaigns to make Malta green and clean are nothing new.

Communities across the islands have been doing their bit for decades.

Here, teams of students, church volunteers and youth leaders are filmed planting trees, weeding, cleaning playgrounds and tidying up the Maltese countryside in 1964.

The environment issue is still a hot topic today.

In 2019, Infrastructure Malta planted almost 9,000 trees in 40 sites across Malta.

A number of private companies have also pledged to work together to plant one million trees in Malta over the next 10 years as part of a massive afforestation project.
