Malta honours the patron saint of cyclists

Description

Amid the blowing of horns and ringing of bells, thousands of cyclists and bikers arrive in Zabbar at the end of another pilgrimage to honour the patron saint of cyclists. The event takes place every year, in a tradition dating back to 1951.

And it doesn’t matter if the participants are from Zabbar or not, it’s all about honouring Our Lady of Grace. Most of those taking part do so year after year, and at the end of the pilgrimage, the parish priest always blesses the bicycles and motorcycles.

The feast of Our Lady of Grace in Zabbar is considered the final feast of the summer holiday season in Malta. The bicycle pilgrimage usually makes its way from Rabat through Mosta and Hamrun before ending up outside the church in Sanctuary Street in Zabbar.
